Take That push Ticketmaster to strong performance

The fast sales of tickets for the Take That 2011 reunion tour – featuring Robbie Williams – propelled the Ticketmaster ecommerce website into the IMRG/Hitwise Experian Hot Shops top 10 for the first time.

Experian announced its November 2010 Hot Shops list today, featuring the month’s most visited ecommerce websites. The list was topped by Amazon UK, followed by Argos and Play.com, with Tesco in fourth place. Ticketmaster came in at 10th place, moving up from 42 in August 2010.

Robin Goad, director of research at Experian Hitwise, said: “Ticketmaster has had a phenomenal quarter off the back of the announced Take That tour. On the day that Take That tickets went on sale Ticketmaster was the 13th most visited website in the UK and visits to the site increased nearly fivefold.”

IMRG chief executive James Roper said: “A reunion tour on the scale of Take that has provided a real boost for Ticketmaster, propelling them into the top 10 for the first time.”

Other strong performers included GAME, which moved up by 18 places to number 30 in the list, following the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Boots, which moved up by 15 places to 20th place.

Goad added: “As Christmas approaches we’d expect to see certain retail sites jump in the rankings for the next Hot Shops list, including electronics companies, mobile providers and toy retailers. We’re starting to see some of that already with both Toys R Us and the Orange Shop returning to the top 50.”

City ticket seller, walk to Ticketmaster

McALLEN — For now, there’s just one way to buy tickets for events at McAllen’s Convention Center: visit the box office.

Forget phone sales or online ordering. EZ-TIXX, the company responsible for those conveniences, owes the city of McAllen and local promoters more than $100,000.

City leaders severed their ties with the North Carolina-based company last month and opted to work with Ticketmaster instead, but the new arrangement still hasn’t been finalized, said Omar Rodriguez, McAllen’s director of convention facilities.

And until that arrangement comes to fruition, “you have to physically come to the box office here at the Convention Center and purchase a ticket,” Rodriguez said.

City commissioners and staff have been tight-lipped about what went wrong, worried any comments might drag them into a potential lawsuit. It’s unclear how much EZ-TIXX owes, and which promoters haven’t been paid.

At the commission’s Nov. 8 meeting, Commissioner Jim Darling would only say the company owed “six figures.” That night, commissioners authorized legal action against EZ-TIXX, and McAllen has now hired lawyers in North Carolina and Texas.

The Monitor couldn’t reach EZ-TIXX for comment. Employees at the company’s Charlotte, N.C., headquarters said only the company’s president and CEO, Wayne H. Davis, could comment. He didn’t return numerous messages last week, and couldn’t be reached Monday.

EZ-TIXX also handles ticketing for Pharr’s convention center, Smokin’ Aces Bar and Grill in Mission and other local venues.

“We haven’t had any issues with them,” said Alex Rios, manager at Smokin’ Aces.

EZ-TIXX began operating in Hidalgo County three years ago after acquiring RGV Ticketing, an Edinburg-based company. RGV Ticketing hasn’t filed a public information report with the Texas Secretary of State’s office since 2007, and the company’s charter was forfeited in April.

Ticketmaster Website Crash

For the band’s two Croke Park concerts, the huge amount of fans this morning demand for Take That tickets which crashed the Ticketmaster site.

Just within 30 mins all tickets for July 18th show were sold out, the tickets for July 19th event were selling out well before the site crashed

Some 82,000 tickets a night are available for the Dublin shows.

It all happened due to excessive amount of fans in the UK coming online to secure tickets for the British concerts

The unexpected demand also caused problems for online ticket sales, this tour also include four nights at Wembley Stadium.

Justin Green of promoter MCD said, "“The reaction has amazed everyone.Ticketmaster never seen [such] reaction before. This has never happened in history of Ireland that the whole system has collapsed"

"The problem was “intermittent” and advised fans who wanted to book tickets to phone Ticketmaster or go to one of their more than 100 outlets across the State."

"It just shows the sheer reaction to Take That and Robbie Williams in Croke Park"
