Take That push Ticketmaster to strong performance

The fast sales of tickets for the Take That 2011 reunion tour – featuring Robbie Williams – propelled the Ticketmaster ecommerce website into the IMRG/Hitwise Experian Hot Shops top 10 for the first time.

Experian announced its November 2010 Hot Shops list today, featuring the month’s most visited ecommerce websites. The list was topped by Amazon UK, followed by Argos and Play.com, with Tesco in fourth place. Ticketmaster came in at 10th place, moving up from 42 in August 2010.

Robin Goad, director of research at Experian Hitwise, said: “Ticketmaster has had a phenomenal quarter off the back of the announced Take That tour. On the day that Take That tickets went on sale Ticketmaster was the 13th most visited website in the UK and visits to the site increased nearly fivefold.”

IMRG chief executive James Roper said: “A reunion tour on the scale of Take that has provided a real boost for Ticketmaster, propelling them into the top 10 for the first time.”

Other strong performers included GAME, which moved up by 18 places to number 30 in the list, following the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Boots, which moved up by 15 places to 20th place.

Goad added: “As Christmas approaches we’d expect to see certain retail sites jump in the rankings for the next Hot Shops list, including electronics companies, mobile providers and toy retailers. We’re starting to see some of that already with both Toys R Us and the Orange Shop returning to the top 50.”
